Since completing my PhD at the School of Media, Film and Music at the University of Sussex in 2012, I have developed courses and workshops in art, technology and cultural studies, both as a permanent member of staff and a guest teacher at various universities and art academies. These are some of the courses I offer:

Drawing from my artistic practice – especially my long-term collaborative research projects - my teaching integrates cultural criticism, hardware and software development, and anthropological field research methods. At the core of this approach is a thorough engagement with theory (lots of reading), in conjunction with intensive field explorations, often in uncomfortable or inaccessible areas: Paul Virilio’s theorizations of surveillance are paired with documentary trips to the boundary of high-security zones; Hannah Arendt’s reflections on violence are paired with firing live ammo at a shooting range and experimenting with cinematic blood effects.

I was Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) and course leader of the Performance Arts programme at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London (2012-15) and Professor of Performance and Technology (W3) at the University of Music and Theatre Munich (2023-26). In addition, I have been a visiting lecturer at, among others, the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, Bern University of the Arts, Academy of Fine Arts Munich and MPLab at the University of Liepaja. Since 2022, I have been working with the arts department at the University of Rojava in Qamishlo, Autonomous Administration of North-East Syria.
