Performing Mediality

This workshop examines the role of media technology in the conceptualization and aesthetics of video artwork and experimental cinema. It will include practical and theoretical explorations of historical and current video recording techniques, ranging from video tape cameras and old mobile phones to state-of-the-art smartphones and a digital cinema camera. Drawing from discussions of existing work in contemporary art and cinema, you will do several hands-on exercises with abovementioned devices focused on documentation of everyday life situations and the realization of short performative actions or scenarios.
