Continuous and omnipresent supply of electricity is the usually taken-for-granted precondition of contemporary consumer culture. I wanted to transform an icon of consumerism into devices that foreclose its basis.

Part of a broken Coca-Cola crate was processed in the plastic grinding machine at the Taka ni Pato recycling factory in Kibera Slum, Nairobi, Kenya. The High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) chips were subsequently moulded into power socket blanking plates on a kerosine stove. The power sockets in the exhibition area are removed and replaced by the blanking plates; an electricity-less space is created, inhospitable to digital and electric technologies. A video of the production process is shown on a monitor in an adjacent space.
